In October, Bethany and Jerry Cagle hosted their first 9-Pin Bowling Fundraiser in memory of their friend Christopher Herren. Over 125 enthusiastic bowlers participated in the event which included raffles and high games/series prizes. Bethany and Jerry got the whole community involved in the event by asking friends, family and local businesses to donate items to fill 50 gift baskets for the raffle! The event raised $2,618 and everyone had a great time. Thank you Bethany and Jerry.
Rychele Waclawski organized a beach volleyball tournament and Chinese auction to raise awareness and money for PRF. Five teams played in the round robin style volleyball tournament which was held on the beach at Zebro's Harbor House Restaurant in Westfield, NY. The volleyball tournament and auction raised almost $900. Along with having a great time, tournament winners received Play for Progeria t-shirts! Thank you Rychele, we are already looking forward to next year's tournament.

Our FirstGiving fundraisers continue to bring contributions and awareness to PRF! A popular way to raise money is to gather sponsors for a race, be it a 5K, half marathon, or marathon. Victoria Allaway of Naperville, IL is one of the latest dedicated athletes - she ran the Detroit Marathon in October, and raised nearly $500! You can still support her run by making a donation on her FirstGiving page, so what are you waiting for?!
After viewing the Barbara Walters 20/20 special on Progeria, Clare, a student at Seneca High School in Tabernacle, NJ, was so touched by the children with Progeria that she wanted to do something to help, so with her mom's help, she organized a bake sale at their church to benefit PRF. In addition to the money raised from the bake sale, Clare's parents and Thrivent Financial added matching funds, for a total of $1,347 - that's a lot of cupcakes! Thank you to Clare and the entire Maurer Family!

After watching a television special about Progeria, 10 year old Kayla from New Jersey decided she wanted to help children with the disease. She told her grandmother that she would donate half of the money she had saved up, and her grandmother matched the donation. How thoughtful and generous of this young girl!
Emily Greenwell, a student at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, was so touched by a TLC documentary about Progeria that she decided to educate her peers and raise money for PRF as part of the college's Health Lecture series. Emily helped put together an hour-long lecture and video presentation on Progeria, with a University of Kentucky bio-Chemist, and a special appearance by local favorite, 3-year-old Zach. Emily raised almost $200 from her efforts!
