Candy Wreath Raffle Scores big at Bowling AlleyIn December 2005, Meagan of Zion, Illinois raffled off home made candy wreaths for PRF. Meagan, as aspiring pediatric physician, had always been interested in Progeria and even gave a report on the disease for her Anatomy and Physiology class. The raffle was held at the bowling alley where she works. With the help of her professor and bowlers from the men's and women's team clubs, she collected $500 for PRF! "I don't know anyone with Progeria, but the stories touched my heart and inspired me to help", she said. Thanks, Meagan. We are lucky to have you on OUR team! |

Canada's "BUD BOYS" outdo themselves with fun and fundraisers throughout summer 2005The "Bud Boys", led by Mike "Fiveoh" Ellis, have been fundraising like crazy in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada for PRF, in honour of Canadian boy Devin. The Boys, including Joe "the Bull" Arnott, Wayne "Pit Bull" Sholer, Dan "Dirty" Eddy, Don "Doc" Day , Dan "Danno" Walker, Raymond "Taz" Davidson, Dave "the House" House and Hank "Saturday" Sabota work and/or hang out at Arnott's Automotive, and at A-Cross the Roads bar. Mike and the boys have known Devin and his mom Jamie for a few years, and last year helped the family raise funds so Devin could go to Florida for a reunion with some of his other friends with Progeria. This year, the Bud Boys have outdone themselves! With the help of local businesses, at this season's CFL Hamilton Tiger Cat football games, they held BBQs, a car wash, sold 400 wristbands (with Devin's help!) and collected straight donations. Joannie, the owner of A-Cross the Roads also organized a motorcycle poker run. So the next time you're in Canada and see motorcycle riders with a cool blue PRF wristband, you'll know the Bud Boys got a hold of them!

Red Hat Society's "Rowdy Rabbles" of St. Mary's, Ohio, hold bake sale for Kaylee! Carol Beane, great great aunt to Kaylee Halko of Ohio, gathered her "Rowdy Rabbles" chapter of the Red Hat Society, and held a huge bake sale at the American Mall in Lima, Ohio for PRF. The Red Hat Society is an organization of women who wear red hats and purple dresses and enjoy life to the fullest. The day of the bake sale the Rabbles turned out in their best red hats and bright dresses, drawing attention on their own. But the arrival of the Halko family really made a big difference! Kaylee talked to everyone, and won them all over with her big smile and wonderful personality. In addition to their yummy baked goods, the Hatters sold PRF's cool blue wristbands, handed out newsletters and flyers, and helped get the word out on PRF's mission. They even made the Lima Fox News! Hats off to "Queen Moll" Carol and her Rowdy Rabbles for raising almost $500! |

Texas "Project Progeria" Group Raises Money with Car Washes, Garage Sales and More!In July, PRF received $1637 from the Project Progeria Organization based at the University of Texas in Arlington. Project Progeria is made up of about 8 college students, and although they may be a small group, their will and desire is as strong as a pack of running backs! They have held many fundraisers over the 4 years they have been together. This most recent Donation was the result of braving scorching 100 degree weather for car washes, staying up late to prepare fresh fried rice and roll up egg rolls for a food sale, and gathering their belongings for a garage sale. All this and they still wish they could do more! Their purpose is to "spread awareness within their community" and to "support medical research that can one day revolutionize science". We appreciate their tremendous efforts! Project Progeria members that have dedicated their time to the organization over the years include: Iris Baccam , Angela Nguyen, Minh Le, Linh Le, Tuan Tran, Tuan Vu, Tony Nguyen, Mary Nguyen, Pradeep Bodige, Jae Shin, Sabrina Chen, Susan Na, Young Cho, Esther Choi, Shawn Oh, Vinh Le, Truong Vo, Huy Nguyen, Ngoc Vu, Tiffany Do and Iris Baccam, along with their advisors: Dr. Mitchell Badon and Dr. Allen Saxe. |
