Classmates, teachers, friends and family of Kristian McGuinness gathered at his Lincoln D. Lynch School in Middleboro, Massachusetts on Sunday, September 17, 2006 for a 2-mile walk in loving honor of Kristian, who had Progeria and died in March 2006. “We wanted to organize something that would let those who knew Kristian do something for him”, says mom and dad, Kathy and Tom, “It’s also a great way to raise money for The Progeria Research Foundation to help others with this condition, and to raise awareness of Progeria.”
Everyone released bright blue balloons into the sky as the walk began, with fun music to kick things off. The walk then ended with food and drinks, raffles and prizes for all the kids. Kristian’s classmates wore special t-shirts with his picture on them, and loads of photos of Kristian – always with a huge smile on his face! - were on display for all to enjoy.
Thanks to the many sponsors, donors and walkers, $15,000 was raised, and everyone enjoyed a day in the bright sunshine, keeping Kristian close to their thoughts and hearts.
