15 year-old Elana from Boxford, MA combined her creative abilities and entrepreneurial spirit along with her community service goals by selling a variety of self-made items at the Boxford Apple Festival this past September, and donated a percentage of her proceeds to PRF. Devoting over 100 hours to prepare for the Festival, she made hand-knit scarves and started her own company for Grandma's Gourmet Brownie Mix, utilizing her grandmother's recipe. Elana designed the unique packaging, created a label, researched and analyzed all the costs and developed a marketing plan, and created her own web site. Almost all the items were sold!
Elana proudly displayed PRF brochures and other materials explaining all about Progeria. "It is so exciting to realize that your [President Audrey Gordon's] visit to her religious school prompted her involvement and compassion for these children", writes her mom Debra. "Not only did Elana raise funds for more research, but she also took this opportunity to raise public awareness by answering questions and sharing the latest news about the recent genetic discovery with those who visited her display." And Elena's proud parents matched her Donation "in Support of her extraordinary efforts". Elana has set a MIRACULOUS example for all teens.
