Als 1998 bei Sam, dem einzigen Kind der \u00c4rzte Leslie Gordon und Scott Berns, Progerie diagnostiziert wurde, begannen sie sofort, so viele Informationen wie m\u00f6glich \u00fcber die Krankheit zu sammeln. Sie stellten fest, dass nicht viel verf\u00fcgbar war: Es gab keine M\u00f6glichkeit, die Krankheit eindeutig zu testen, keine Finanzierung f\u00fcr die Progerieforschung und keine Organisation, die sich f\u00fcr Kinder mit Progerie einsetzte. Also versammelten sie 1999 Familie, Freunde und Kollegen um sich und gr\u00fcndeten die Progeria Research Foundation, um die Ursache, Behandlung und Heilung f\u00fcr Progerie zu finden.<\/p>\n
Seitdem haben sich Hunderte engagierter Freiwilliger dem PRF-Team angeschlossen, um die Progerieforschung in au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlichem Tempo voranzubringen.
