Ai partecipanti \u00e8 stata data una piattaforma per condividere la loro competenza nella ricerca sulla Progeria e incontrare alcuni dei bambini che trarranno beneficio dal loro lavoro. Un riassunto del workshop \u00e8 stato pubblicato oggi sulla rivista <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aging-us.com\/article\/202835\/text#fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Invecchiamento<\/em><\/a>Tra i partecipanti c&#039;erano medici, scienziati e ricercatori preclinici di fama mondiale, insieme a famiglie di bambini e giovani adulti affetti da Progeria.<\/p>\n<p>Il programma \u00e8 stato guidato dalle presentazioni delle famiglie dei pazienti, seguite dagli aggiornamenti sulla prima richiesta di approvazione del farmaco da parte della FDA per Progeria (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.progeriaresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/PRF-Press-Release-Zokinvy-FDA-Approval-FINAL.pdf\">che \u00e8 stato concesso pi\u00f9 tardi quel mese<\/a>), nonch\u00e9 i risultati iniziali dell&#039;unica sperimentazione clinica attuale sulla Progeria. A ci\u00f2 sono seguite le presentazioni di dati preclinici non pubblicati su farmaci in fase di sviluppo che hanno come bersaglio la mutazione del DNA che causa la malattia, l&#039;mRNA aberrante, la proteina progerina e le sue proteine effettrici a valle. Collegando il laboratorio al letto del paziente, i medici hanno presentato nuove scoperte sulla storia naturale della malattia per informare lo sviluppo di future sperimentazioni cliniche e nuove procedure di sostituzione della valvola aortica per la Progeria.
