Aanwezigen kregen een platform om hun expertise in Progeria-onderzoek te delen en enkele kinderen te ontmoeten die baat zullen hebben bij hun werk. Een samenvatting van de workshop werd vandaag gepubliceerd in het tijdschrift <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aging-us.com\/article\/202835\/text#fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Veroudering<\/em><\/a>Onder de aanwezigen waren artsen, wetenschappers en preklinische onderzoekers van wereldklasse, evenals families van kinderen en jongvolwassenen met Progeria.<\/p>\n<p>Presentaties van pati\u00ebntenfamilies stonden centraal in het programma, gevolgd door updates over de allereerste aanvraag van Progeria voor goedkeuring van het medicijn door de FDA (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.progeriaresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/PRF-Press-Release-Zokinvy-FDA-Approval-FINAL.pdf\">die later die maand werd verleend<\/a>), evenals de eerste resultaten van de enige huidige klinische proef met Progeria. Dit werd gevolgd door presentaties van ongepubliceerde preklinische gegevens over geneesmiddelen in ontwikkeling die gericht zijn op de ziekteveroorzakende DNA-mutatie, het afwijkende mRNA, progerine-eiwit en de downstream effector-eiwitten. Door de werkbank aan het bed te koppelen, presenteerden clinici nieuwe ontdekkingen over de natuurlijke geschiedenis van de ziekte om toekomstige klinische proefontwikkeling en nieuwe Progeria-aortaklepvervangingsprocedures te informeren.
