De familie van Sam Berns heeft vandaag bevestigd dat hij vrijdagavond 10 januari 2014 is overleden aan complicaties van Progeria.<\/p>\n

Sam, 17 jaar oud, kreeg op 22 maanden de diagnose Progeria. Zijn ouders, Drs. Leslie Gordon en Scott Berns, richtten in 1999 The Progeria Research Foundation op om de oorzaak, behandeling en genezing te vinden. Kinderen met Progeria leven gemiddeld 13 jaar.<\/p>\n

In 2013 zond HBO Documentaries het verhaal van Sam Berns uit in Leven volgens Sam <\/a>, en zijn moed en geest raakten iedereen die hem persoonlijk leerde kennen of ge\u00efnspireerd werd door zijn verhaal. Sam deelde ook zijn levensfilosofie op TEDxMidden-Atlantische Oceaan <\/a>in oktober 2013.<\/p>\n

De gehele PRF-gemeenschap rouwt om het verlies van deze bijzondere jongeman, die niet alleen de inspiratiebron was voor PRF, maar ook miljoenen mensen over de hele wereld raakte.<\/p>\n

The family of Sam Berns confirmed today that he passed away Friday evening, January 10, 2014 due to complications from Progeria.<\/p>

Sam, age 17, was diagnosed at 22 months of age with Progeria. His parents, Drs. Leslie Gordon and Scott Berns, established The Progeria Research Foundation in 1999 to find the cause, treatment and cure. Children with Progeria live an average of 13 years.<\/p>

In 2013, HBO Documentaries broadcast the story of Sam Berns in Life According to Sam <\/a>, and his courage and spirit moved everyone who came to know him personally or was inspired by his story. Sam also shared his life philosophy at TEDxMidAtlantic <\/a>in October 2013.<\/p>

The entire PRF community mourns the loss of this remarkable young man who not only inspired PRF's creation, but also touched millions of people worldwide.<\/p>
